Paths in Paradise: Hike Info and prices

FULL DAY and HALF DAY HIKES:

Hawaiian Plants and Vistas: Waihe'e Ridge (half day)
We will hike on the old West Maui Mountain from an elevation of 1400 ft to 2600 ft. with spectacular views into densely vegetated, wet canyons and panoramic views of most of Maui. The more we ascend, the more we will be surrounded by native Hawaiian vegetation and birds. This is a moderate hike which gives us a good dose of exercise, and provides much information about native Hawaiian rainforest plants, as well as how the people of old used them in their daily lives.

Waterfall-Rain Forest Hike: Kipahulu Valley (full day)
Start a long day with Maui's most exciting drive, through lush rain forests along the Hana coast. Hike up Oheo/Pipiwai stream, cool off in shallow pools and green jungles of dark, damp bamboo forests, and be misted by the spray of the 400 foot Waimoku waterfalls on their long journeys to the sea. Finally return home through the dry and wilder side of East Maui, overlooking La Perouse Bay and Kaho'olawe in the fading daylight.

Haleakala A: Hike through the entire crater (full day)
This unforgettable hike through the volcanic moon landscape of Haleakala National Park starts at the Visitor Center (9,700ft). We will descend Sliding Sands Trail to the crater floor (7,200 ft.), walk over 4 mi. through the crater - passing the most colorful cinder cones and rare plants, such as the endangered Haleakala silversword - visit a huge lava cave, and relax at Holua Cabin. On our way out we will climb steep switchbacks, covered with native ferns and shrubs. If we are lucky, the hawaiian Goose (Nene) and some Hawaiian forest birds will greet us from above.

History and Hula: Cultural journey from Kula to Kaupo (full day)
Experience the remote side of Maui where Hawaiian history and sovereignty come to life. Driving along the rugged coastline of East Maui, we will pass the old Rose Ranch (now Tedeschi Vinyards), Maui's youngest lava flow, one of the best Hawaiian Dryland Forests, remnants of old Hawaiian settlements, and will finally relax on a wonderful ocean spot close to Kaupo. On our way back we will have the privilege to visit a Hula School and observe an ongoing authentic Hula class.
Note: This hike can be offered only on Wednesdays and Thursdays

1 mile boot

Hawaiian Birds: Poli Poli Cloud Forest (full day)

This area is perfect for birders (up to 7 native Hawaiian species) and those who enjoy hiking in solitude. We will stroll at 6000 ft. on the western slopes of Haleakala through both Hawaiian Alpine Cloud Forest and introduced redwood, cedar and sugi pine forests, treated to requent panoramic views.
